For over 47 years Spark & Cannon has been providing recording and transcription services to courts and tribunals throughout Australasia.

1958: The beginning of private sector court reporting in Australia
Legendary speed shorthand writer, Edna Spark, established her court reporting enterprise in Western Australia, pioneering private sector court reporting together with the Crown Law Department (now the Department of the Attorney General). The unique court reporting experience accumulated by Ms Spark, her son Deane Cannon and his wife Peta was a critical factor in the development of an efficient, cost-effective audio recording and transcription system.

1985 to 1995: The growth of Spark & Cannon
Following the establishment of what grew into a large and prosperous Western Australian company, Deane Cannon moved east to found his own venture as Spark & Cannon (SA) Pty Ltd. Within six years he and his wife Peta Cannon had successfully set up offices in Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney. The Hobart office followed a number of years later, after the awarding of a contract with the Family Court of Australia.

2004 to the Present: Partnership with VIQ Solutions Inc
In April 2004, both the original Spark & Cannon company entities became subsidiaries of
VIQ Solutions, a world leader in digital recording solutions. This partnership strengthened Spark & Cannon's market position and, as the sole Australian distributor of VIQ products, we are now able to harness and model digital technologies to suit both our own requirements and those of our clients.
In mid 2006 the two Spark & Cannon companies were consolidated to form one legal entity, Spark & Cannon Australasia Pty Limited. This change created a new unity in the management of the company, allowing the implementation of national processes and procedures.
In 2010 Spark & Cannon established offices in Brisbane, Canberra and Darwin as a result of being awarded a contract with Fair Work Australia.
